Measure span directly and precisely with no error prone calculations
The self-centering span gauge was developed to speed up the process of accurately measuring spans on most types of boats.
Measuring the spans of a complete eight can now be done in around 2 minutes compared with the 15 minutes it generally takes using a tape measure. This is possible because the new tool is simply placed across the boat, the sliding stop is moved against the side of the boat and the position of the oarlock/swivel is read against the scale on the tool. Mental arithmetic and constant re-checking are no longer required!
The self-centering span gauge is supplied in a tough polypropylene case that should be used for storage. Full user instructions are printed on the case.
FAQ
How accurate is the self-centering span gauge? The gauge can allow you to easily achieve an accuracy of 2mm or less.
What range of boat widths can the gauge accommodate? From 350 to 700mm
Does the self-centering span gauge suit all boat types? In general the gauge works best where a tape measure would have been used previously. If the oarlocks/swivels are much higher than the gunnels/saxboards, which is generally the case with sculling boats, the tool can't give accurate readings. However if the sculling boat has a wing rigger you can often measure to the centre of the pin underneath the rigger.
